CTE Department Awarded Grant:
The Cazenovia Central School District's CTE Department has been awarded a $19,200 SME PRIME Middle School Demonstration Grant to acquire a WAZER Pro waterjet. This high-precision industrial tool allows students in grades 7–12 to safely cut complex materials like metal and glass without heat or fumes. By bringing college-level STEM equipment into the classroom, the district provides students with hands-on, career-connected learning opportunities. Burton Street is making waves! Pick a Reading Partner (PARP) is officially underway, and the front foyer has been completely transformed into a vibrant "Sea of Stories" to kick off the festivities. During the week of March 16th students will be immersed in a world of reading with special events including guest speakers, mystery readers, spirit week, reading buddies and more!
Each day, classrooms are tracking their progress as they tally each book/chapter read. Burton Street has set an ambitious goal to read 15,000 books/chapters by March 27th. We have full confidence in our students - let's keep those pages turning and reach that goal together!

Seusiscal the Musical Success:
The Cazenovia High School Drama Club proudly congratulates the cast, crew, and pit orchestra of Seussical on a fantastic production weekend with three sold-out performances. Students brought incredible energy, creativity, and heart to the stage, delighting audiences as they brought the colorful world of Dr. Seuss to life.
This year’s production was a true team effort, showcasing the talent, dedication, and hard work of students both on stage and behind the scenes. From lively musical numbers to heartfelt moments, the show was a wonderful celebration of creativity and collaboration.

Academic Decathlon Wins NYS Competition
The team, under the steady leadership and advisement of Mr. Ben Wightman, won the NYS competition at West Genesee High School on Wednesday, February 25th. Mr. Wightman provided some highlights and information:

Sanctuary Club's Self-Love Event:
Students involved in the Sanctuary Club at the high school spread inclusivity and kindness with their self-love table the week prior to break. During lunch periods, students were encouraged to write positive messages on post-it notes and add them to a mirror - for all to see and read. The Sanctuary Club also had Valentine's Day candy and fidgets to give out for all to enjoy!

FIRST LEGO League Earns Top Honors!:

Cazenovia’s FIRST LEGO League (FLL), or “The Peeps” as they are known, reached a major milestone this past weekend, receiving the Champion’s Award at the FIRST LEGO League Challenge Finger Lakes Regional Championship.
The event was held on February 7, 2025 and featured twenty-nine teams from across the region. The Peeps were recognized for their exemplary performance across all FLL categories: Robot Game, Innovation Project, Core Values, and Robot Design.

FM/Caz swimming and Diving are the Class A Sectional Champions!

Conor Kelly placed 3rd in the 100 Free, 8th in the 50 Free as well as 1st in the 400 Free Relay and 2nd in the 200 Free Relay both qualifying for States! Nolan Campagna placed 8th in the 200 Free and 5th in the 500 Free. Wally Denkenberger's Breast time seeded him 11th at the meet.
Quinn Tait, Jack Mattern and Landon Muraski contributed greatly to the team's success.
Multiple individual swimmers and relays have already qualified for the State meet on the team as well as program records broken!
The Section III State Qualifier Meet is this Thursday at Nottingham High School and the team looks to earn its first ever George Falwell Cup.

Through Lakers Lead the Way, our students will be recognized for leading the way by being safe, responsible, and kind . During a designated trait week, classrooms will focus on one of these important traits and discuss the many ways students can demonstrate it throughout the school day. Read-A-Thon is Coming to Burton St.!:

The Burton Street PTA is hosting its 7th Annual Winter Read-A-Thon during the upcoming February Break! For nine days (Feb 14 - 22), we are encouraging your child to read at least 20 minutes a day. All students will be eligible to earn prizes just by submitting their reading minutes! In addition to supporting your child's education through reading, the Read-A-Thon is also a fun and rewarding way to raise funds for the many activities sponsored by the PTA. Students can ask family and friends to pledge a "flat amount" or "per minute amount" to encourage their reading efforts.

Merger Study Grant Process: Cazenovia and Morrisville-Eaton Seek Funding:

The Cazenovia and Morrisville-Eaton central school districts are working diligently with the OCM BOCES Grant Writing Service to secure a crucial New York State Department of State grant to support an in-depth study exploring the potential benefits of a merger between the two districts.
“We want to deliver an educational experience that will provide the best future for our students,” Cazenovia Superintendent Chris DiFulvio said. “Conducting a merger study is one way we can explore options without committing to a change. Securing funding for the study is the first step in this exploration process.”
