We are excited to introduce a new school-wide incentive program at Burton Street Elementary called Lakers Lead the Way ! This program was thoughtfully created by our Laker Character Crew to encourage and celebrate positive student behavior.
Through Lakers Lead the Way, our students will be recognized for leading the way by being safe, responsible, and kind . During a designated trait week, classrooms will focus on one of these important traits and discuss the many ways students can demonstrate it throughout the school day. All students will have the opportunity to be recognized for following these traits and earn gold stars . Students who earn gold stars will have their names entered into a drawing. Read-A-Thon is Coming to Burton St.!:

The Burton Street PTA is hosting its 7th Annual Winter Read-A-Thon during the upcoming February Break! For nine days (Feb 14 - 22), we are encouraging your child to read at least 20 minutes a day. All students will be eligible to earn prizes just by submitting their reading minutes! In addition to supporting your child's education through reading, the Read-A-Thon is also a fun and rewarding way to raise funds for the many activities sponsored by the PTA. Students can ask family and friends to pledge a "flat amount" or "per minute amount" to encourage their reading efforts.

2026 Shakespeare Competition:
On Friday, January 23, Cazenovia High School held its annual Shakespeare Monologue Competition, featuring seven talented performers in grades 8 through 12. Sebastian Gebers, the reigning Syracuse Regional Champion, won with his psychologically gripping performance as Edmund (King Lear). For the fourth consecutive year, Sebastian will represent Cazenovia at Syracuse Stage’s Regional Competition this February. All are rooting for him to return to the National Competition in New York City again!

Merger Study Grant Process: Cazenovia and Morrisville-Eaton Seek Funding:

The Cazenovia and Morrisville-Eaton central school districts are working diligently with the OCM BOCES Grant Writing Service to secure a crucial New York State Department of State grant to support an in-depth study exploring the potential benefits of a merger between the two districts.
“We want to deliver an educational experience that will provide the best future for our students,” Cazenovia Superintendent Chris DiFulvio said. “Conducting a merger study is one way we can explore options without committing to a change. Securing funding for the study is the first step in this exploration process.”

Cazenovia students achieve impressive AP scores:
We’re excited to share some standout 2024 AP exam scores. Cazenovia High School students outperformed state and global competition in 10/12 exams. We had 335 students take exams, 77% scored a 3 or higher.
An AP score of 3 means you are qualified to receive college credit and placement if you earn that score. An exam score of 4 or 5 means the student is very well qualified or extremely well qualified for college credit and placement. The score also helps students assess the equivalent college course grade for each score.
The exams are created and scored by teams of AP teachers and college professors. They are designed to measure how well students have mastered the content and skills of a specific AP course. Most AP courses have an end-of-year exam, but a few courses ...

A community merger presentation took place on June 20, 2024. The presentation featured Dr. John Sipple, a professor and researcher at Cornell University who studies how public schools and communities adapt to policies and challenges like mergers.

Seventh-grade social studies teacher Mark Tugaw was recently named Teacher of the Year by the Cazenovia Central School District (CCSD).
According to CCSD Superintendent Chris DiFulvio, the district solicits nominations for the award each year from its teachers, and past award recipients vote on the winner.
“Mark is one of the strongest relationship builders I know,” said DiFulvio. “He works closely with students to get to know them and demonstrates genuine interest in his students. I believe it is Mark’s ability to relate to anyone that has made him a deserving recipient of this year’s award.”

The school attained a score of 94.92, which placed them 3rd within Syracuse, NY metro area high schools and 98 th in of all schools in New York. In addition, CHS ranked 899th in the nation, out of more than 17,600 schools that were evaluated at the national, state and local level. Varsity Athletes Mentor Elementary Students via Cazenovia Jersey Day:
Cazenovia Central School District’s “Jersey Day” is a special event held each year, where varsity athletes volunteer their jersey to a fourth-grade student to wear for the day.
Varsity students are paired with a fourth-grader, and the pairs get to know each other as well as spend time with the team as a whole during the assembly.
“The fourth-graders love getting to know a high school athlete,” said Burton Street Elementary Physical Education Teacher Sean Condon, who assisted in coordinating the event. “They wear their jerseys with pride and enthusiasm throughout the school day.”

CCSD Receives NAMM Best Communities for Music Education Award!:
Cazenovia CSD for has been named as one of the BEST COMMUNITIES for Music Education 2023, a designation from The NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education. Now in its 24th year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students.
To qualify for the Best Communities designation, Cazenovia, answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program and community music-making programs. Responses were verified by school officials and reviewed by The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas.

CHS Student Molly Walsh Signs NLI for Division I Equestrian Team:
Molly Walsh, Class of 2023, signed her National Letter of Intent to participate at the collegiate level in the sport of Equestrian on Friday, April 14th. Molly declared her intentions to attend Delaware State and be a member of the Division I Equestrian Team. Congratulations to Molly Walsh on her accomplishments and her college decision! To date we have committed $677,009 of the $813,516 allotted to our district through the Smart Schools Bond Act. Phase 1 (2016) consisted of technology infrastructure and building security upgrades totaling $316,650. Phase 2 (2017) involved the purchase of new computers, chromebooks and projectors to support our students and staff, totaling $360,359.
A total of $136,507 remains for Phase 3.
