Transportation Department

The Transportation Department consists of Bus Drivers, Attendants, Mechanics, and office staff. We are committed to providing safe transportation to and from school every day for every student. Throughout the school year, the staff participates in workshops, refreshers, annual reviews, medical examinations, and random drug testing. We wish you a healthy and happy school year!

School bus service for 2024-2025 school opening:

  • Non-public School Transportation Forms should be submitted by April 1.
  • School buses will operate on Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2024, for students in grades UPK-12.
  • Bus routes will be available via the BusRight App by the final week of August; an invitation will be emailed.
  • Buses traveling to non-public schools and BOCES will operate according to each school's calendar.
  • Our District mandates that students within 1.5 miles of the school or a shuttle bus stop walk to school.

Safety at the bus stop:

  • Be ready and waiting for the bus at least 15 ft from the roadway or bus stop.
  • Wait for the bus to come to a complete stop, even if the doors open. Students should look both ways before walking toward the bus and watch for the driver's signal before moving toward the bus.
  • Parents or caregivers of younger students should be visible at the time students are dropped off.
  • UPK-2nd grade students must be dropped off to an adult.
  • Immediately after boarding or exiting, students, parents, and nearby pets must clear a 15-foot radius from the bus.
  • Students should never cross behind the bus or try to get on from behind the bus.
  • Students should follow the safe crossing procedures explained by the school bus driver.
  • Students are to check the mailbox only after the bus has departed entirely.

Late bus routes:

  • Students participating in after-school activities need a late bus pass from the teacher/coach to ride a late bus.
  • Late buses leave from the Middle School bus circle.

School closings or delays:

No buses will run any day school is closed due to adverse weather conditions. On days when school is delayed, weather permitting, the afternoon schedule will resume. The radio, television, and the internet will provide up-to-date information.

Tracking buses:

You can use the BusRight App to track your student's ride to and from school. The app is available on Google Play or the Apple App store. Sign up for an account in the app using the email you were invited with. Then, verify your email. Log in to your account using the credentials you created. Once signed in, you will be able to view your student's routes and track their bus.

The app allows you to switch routes to view morning and afternoon runs or routes for multiple students with real-time updates. You can also manage notification settings to receive alerts when your student’s bus starts its trip and arrives at its stop.

Student reminders:

  • School buses are an extension of the classroom; therefore, all students are expected to follow Laker's expectations when on the bus.
  • Drivers will issue student conduct reports for any student who fails to meet our Laker expectations.
  • Students should remain seated whenever the bus is moving. All buses have seat belts, available for student use.
  • When on the bus, students should talk quietly.
  • Manageable-sized backpacks are recommended.
  • Eating and drinking on the bus is not permitted.
  • Problems should be reported to the driver, building principal, teacher or parent. Students should not try to handle problems themselves.
  • Drivers may assign seats.

Parent reminders

  • Daycare information should be in place by August 1. This information must be renewed each school year. It is helpful to correct this information prior to the first day of school to ensure your child is on the correct bus.
  • For elementary students, all pick-up changes should be made with the Burton Street PickUp Patrol by 1:30 p.m. or 10 a.m. on half days. Drop-off changes to a registered childcare location will be issued for emergency purposes only.
  • Afternoon bus routes will only transport your child to home or to daycare. Changes to your students' transportation for play dates, lessons, work, or parties is not permitted.
  • Eating and drinking on the school bus are not allowed due to the danger of choking and risk to those with food allergies.
  • Live pets, even when caged, are not allowed on the buses. No glass items of any kind are permitted. Parents should transport skateboards, sleds, ice skates, snowboardsand scooters, as these items may cause injury to passengers.
  • Due to limited space, parents may need to transport large musical instruments, large athletic bags, and fragile projects.
  • Backpacks should help keep items together and be of a size that is easy and safe for your child to manage.
  • All students will participate in a school bus evacuation and safety drill during the first seven days of school and at least two other times during the school year.
  • Please ensure all belongings are clearly marked with the student's name and school.
  • Please contact our office in a timely manner if you have any questions or concerns about your child’s transportation needs.
