RUNNING FOR A SEAT ON THE BOARD OF EDUCATION IN 2025
In 2025, the terms for two (2) members of the Board of Education will be expiring. Members of the Board of Education are elected to serve a three (3) year, unpaid, non-partisan term. The Board of Education consists of seven (7) voting members plus the Superintendent of Schools. Those who are interested in running for election can find useful information in our policies HERE and on NYSSBA's website HERE.
Nominating petition packets are below (three parts), and hard copies can be obtained from the District Clerk. You do not have to use the petition provided by the district, however, petitions must be notarized and filed with the District Clerk no later than 30 days prior to the election. The District Clerk is a Notary Public and this service is free.
Important for 2025: According to Policy 1210, nominating petitions must be signed by at least twenty-five (25) qualified voters, or by two (2) percent of the number of voters who voted in the previous annual election, whichever was greater. In 2024, 2,020 ballots were cast; therefore, petitions in 2025 will require a minimum of forty-one (41) signatures. The petition below was updated on March 3, 2025.
The NYS deadline to file a nominating petition for the 2025 Board of Education election is Monday, April 21, 2025 at 5:00 pm. Ballots go into production after this deadline.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The week of April 14-18, 2025 is Spring Recess, and the District Clerk will NOT be in the office to accept petitions.
You may file your petition at any time prior to the deadline. Please plan accordingly.
