Voters Reject 2024-25 School Budget Proposal; Elect 3 Board Members Voters Reject 2024-25 School Budget Proposal; Elect 3 Board Members: On May 21, Cazenovia Central School District voters rejected the district’s proposed $38.8 million spending plan for the 2024-25 school year. It carried an estimated 5.84% tax levy increase.   Voters rejected the budget with a vote of 1164-832, which is a 58% approval. A supermajority of 60% was required for it to pass because the proposed tax levy increase exceeded the district’s calculated tax levy limit. The district exceeded the limit in an effort to balance the budget without making significant program and staff cuts.   When a proposed school budget is defeated at the polls, the board of education has three options, according to state law. Rice, senior at Cazenovia High School, is the recipient of the inaugural Jean M. Coon Humanitarian Award presented by the Zonta Club of Brewerton, NY – Friends for Equality, Inc. Junior or senior students who preform outstanding community service may apply for this annual award by submitting a completed application and reference letter to the Zonta club in January, February, or March. Academic achievement is not relevant. The winning club award application is forwarded to Zonta District 2 for consideration at district-level recognition and a $1000 cash award. CHS Junior Andrew Szalach Selected to Serve as the New York State FFA Treasurer CHS Junior Andrew Szalach Selected to Serve as the New York State FFA Treasurer: Andrew Curtis Szalach, currently a junior at Cazenovia High School and member of the Cazenovia Aggies FFA Chapter, has been selected to serve as the 2024 to 2025 New York State FFA Treasurer. Andrew was formally elected Friday, May 3rd at the FFA State Convention in Buffalo, and will officially take office on July 1st. He believed it was his time to serve the FFA in a larger capacity, and to make a difference with all students who are passionate in agriculture.     Community hears district budget challenges; provides feedback Community hears district budget challenges; provides feedback: The Cazenovia Central School District is considering options such as eliminating staff positions, athletic teams, student clubs and elective courses to close the $1.85 million gap between revenues and expenses in its proposed 2024-25 budget. About 195 community members gathered at Cazenovia High School on March 20 to hear about the district’s financial crisis and discuss how they felt about the possible solutions outlined by the administration to balance the budget.     2024-25 Budget Development Begins in Cazenovia CSD 2024-25 Budget Development Begins in Cazenovia CSD: The Cazenovia Central School District began the 2024-25 budget development process at its first board of education budget work session held on Monday, February 5, 2024.   Superintendent Christopher DiFulvio and Assistant Superintendent / School Business Official Thomas Finnerty presented the highlights of Governor Hochul’s executive budget proposal, which includes a modest increase in state aid to school districts across the state due to declining enrollment in New York schools over the last decade.   Under the proposal, our district would receive a projected reduction in state aid of -$339,823.     CCSD Students Enjoy Hockey & Celebrate French Night at The Crunch CCSD Students Enjoy Hockey & Celebrate French Night at The Crunch: Over 65 participants from the Middle School and High School attended "la Soirée Française"/French Night at the Syracuse Crunch on Friday, January 26, 2024. Students had a chance to enjoy French trivia, learn French hockey vocabulary and even get their photo taken with native French speaking Crunch players -- Félix Robert, Shawn Element, Gabriel Fortier and Zachary Massicotte. In class, students talked about how the Crunch's opponent, the Laval Rocket, are named after Maurice Richard, the French Canadian ice hockey hero from the 1940s, nicknamed "the Rocket." We look forward to next year's Crunch night and helping break this year's record attendance of over 540 students and teachers!

A little over a week ago, the district was informed that our in-ground bus lift would not pass its next scheduled annual inspection by the Department of Transportation (DOT). In addition to the condition of the lift, there are structural issues beneath the lift itself that need to be addressed in order to pass such an inspection.
