2026-27 Budget Information
NOTICE OF BUDGET HEARING AND VOTE
CAZENOVIA CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT
NOTICE is hereby given that the Board of Education of the Cazenovia Central School District (the “District”) will hold a public budget hearing on May 11, 2026, at 6:30 P.M., EST, at the Cazenovia High School Auditorium, 31 Emory Ave, Cazenovia NY, where the proposed District budget for the 2026-2027 academic year will be presented.
TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that a copy of the detailed budget statement outlining the amount of money which will be required for the ensuing year for school purposes may be obtained by any resident in the District at each schoolhouse in the District during the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M. on each day other than a Saturday, Sunday, or holiday during the fourteen (14) days immediately preceding the annual meeting, and on the date of the election at the polling place.
TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that the annual meeting and election of members of the Board of Education of the District and the vote for the appropriation of the necessary funds to meet the estimated expenditures for the 2026-2027 academic year and authorizing the levy of taxes, and the vote for any other propositions will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, between the hours of 7:00 A.M. and 9:00 P.M. at Cazenovia Middle School Aux Gym, 31 Emory Ave, Cazenovia NY.
TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that voters at the annual meeting shall vote upon the annual budget proposition, which shall appear on the ballot in the following form, after such budget has been finalized by the Board of Education:
Proposition 1 – 2026-2027 Budget
Shall the Board of Education of the Cazenovia Central School District be authorized to appropriate and expend an amount which is anticipated to be determined by said Board no later than April 20, 2026 for general purposes for the year of 2026-2027 and to levy a tax on the taxable property of the school district as provided by law?
TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that at the annual meeting and election, the following proposition shall be presented to qualified voters:
Proposition 2 – Transportation
Shall the Board of Education of the Cazenovia Central School District be authorized to purchase and finance three (3) diesel 66-passenger school buses and one (1) gasoline 16-passenger school bus, including necessary furnishings, fixtures and equipment and all other costs incidental thereto, and expend a total sum not to exceed $680,404, which is estimated to be the total maximum cost thereof, and said amount, or so much thereof as may be necessary, shall be raised by the levy of a tax upon the taxable property of said School District and collected in annual installments as provided by Section 416 of the Education Law; and, in anticipation of such tax, obligations of said School District, in the principal amount not to exceed $680,404, shall be issued?
TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that at the annual meeting and election, the following proposition shall be presented to qualified voters:
Proposition 3 - Library Contribution
Shall the Board of Education of the Cazenovia Central School District be authorized to levy a tax in an amount which is anticipated to be determined no later than April 20, 2026 for the Cazenovia Public Library and the New Woodstock Free Library, said amounts to be determined by and remitted to those public libraries?
TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that at the annual meeting and election, the following vacancies on the Board of Education are to be filled: a three (3) year term (5/20/26-6/30/29), a three (3) year term (7/1/26-6/30/29), a two (2) year term (5/20/26-6/30/28), and a one (1) year term (5/20/26-6/30/27). The seats are presently held by Jeffrey Dewan, Jan Woodworth, Emily Wiemers, and Leigh Baldwin, respectively.
TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that petitions nominating candidates for the office of member of the Board of Education must be filed in the office of the District Clerk no later than 5:00 P.M. on April 20, 2026. Each petition must be directed to the District Clerk, must be signed by at least 32 qualified voters of the District, must state the residence of each qualified voter, and the name and residence of the candidate.
TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that applications for absentee and early mail ballots for election of Board members may be applied for by qualified voters at the office of the District Clerk. A list of all persons to whom absentee ballots shall have been issued will be available for inspection in the office of the District Clerk on each of the five (5) days prior to the election except Sunday, and such list will also be posted at the polling place at the election of members of the Board of Education.
TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that military voters who are qualified voters of the School District may apply for a military ballot by requesting an application from the District Clerk at (315) 655-1317 or eayres@caz.cnyric.org. For a military voter to be issued a military ballot, the District Clerk must have received a valid ballot application no later than 5:00 P.M. on April 23, 2026. In a request for a military ballot application or ballot, the military voter may indicate their preference for receiving the application or ballot by mail, facsimile transmission or electronic mail.- Detailed budget information and presentations can be found on the Business Office page.
