Cazenovia Boys Track & Field Team Victorious at OHSL Championship & Sectionals
The Cazenovia boys track and field team held off a strong Marcellus squad to emerge victorious at the 2023 Section 3 Class B2 championship on February 8th. Led by Captains Branden McColm and Connor Frisbie, the team combined for an overall score of 128 points. Marcellus earned a second place finish with 101 points and VVS took third place with 69 points.In the first event on the track, Senior Branden McColm took first place in the 3200M with a time of 10:24.02 and scored the Lakers 10 points. Senior Chris Kelly also ran a personal best with a time of 11:11.84.
The 4x400M relay team of Jaden Kaplan, Wyatt Scott, Finn Worthington and Tristan Field Bradley held off VVS and earned a 2nd place finish with a time of 3:44.23.
In the 4x800M relay the Laker squad of Will Austin, Chris Kelly, Caleb Gilmore and newcomer Eddie Comeau ran 9:23.08 to earn second place and edged out Marcellus to score 8 points.
Wyatt Scott, Finn Worthington, Aiden Jurgens and Matthew Tugaw secured a 5th place finish in the 4x200M relay with a time of 1:43.25
The Lakers dominated the 1000M with Branden McColm (2:50.17) and Will Austin (2:52.64) taking 1st and 2nd place to combine for 18 points. Austin ran a personal best and edged out Marcellus’ Nolan Manahan to hold 2nd place.
Jaden Kaplan (1:30.94) and freshman Tristan Field Bradley (1:34.38) captured 1st and 3rd place in the 600M dash. Bradley ran a personal best and Kaplan continued to show his dominance in an event that he hopes to run at the state championship. Kaplan earned an additional 8 points in the 300M dash with a time of 38:82.
In the 1600M, Will Austin, Caleb Gilmore and Branden McColm all scored and combined for 9 more points for the Lakers distance crew.
Junior Connor Frisbie earned a first place finish in all three events he entered. On the track Frisbie held off a strong field of Marcellus and VVS runners in the 55M hurdles with a time of 8:56. Frisbie also scored 1st place in the triple jump by jumping 40’-6.5”. He jumped a personal best 6’-0” in the high jump and scored 30 points in total for the Lakers. Frisbie will continue on in the state qualifier on February 15th and is currently a top 50 competitor in New York state for multiple events.
Led by Frisbie in the field events, the Laker field events squad captured 1st place in the pole vault (Killian Blouin, 11’-0”),1st place in the high jump, 1st place in the triple jump, 2nd place and personal best in the weight throw (Alex Ramirez, 44’-7.5”). Freshman Ethan Burry scored 6th place in the weight throw (38’-10”) and senior Aidan Bailey threw a personal best 37’-6.75”.
In all, the Lakers combined for 128 points to win another sectional title. The 2023 Section 3 Class B2 champions will continue competition with thirteen athletes entering the New York State qualifier on February 15th at SRC arena.
