CMS & 7th grade Exploratory Course Teachers Recognized with Innovation in Education Award at WCNY Studios

Congratulations to our 7th grade Exploratory Course Teachers and Middle School for being recognized for the Innovation in Education Award at WCNY Studios.

The Exploratory course, which is outlined below, was chosen for the award for the creative and innovative design that is offered to our 7th grade students. Two of our Exploratory teachers chose two students to go to WCNY studios to share their personal experiences within the Exploratory Course.

All of our 7th grade students meet for 8 weeks with the Exploratory teachers - Bobbey McCarthy, Sara McDowell, Deb McHugh, Robert Merithew, and Christina New - on a rotating basis.

CTE Exploratory 7- Business H166 Christina New	In CTE Exploratory 7- Intro to Career and Financial Management and Entrepreneurship, students will learn the basics of managing and growing their personal finances while also being introduced to the exciting world of entrepreneurship, focusing on developing an entrepreneurial mindset.
CTE Exploratory 7- FCS H110 Sara McDowell	In CTE Exploratory 7 Family Consumer Sciences, students will explore foundational cooking knowledge and develop these skills for planning, selecting, purchasing, preparing, serving and storing safe and nutritious foods.
CTE Exploratory 7- Tech H258 Robert Merithew	In CTE Exploratory 7- “Introduction to Technology”, students will have the opportunity to discover several areas of Technology through project based learning and hands on experiences.This course will build the foundation for all Technology courses throughout high school.
CTE Exploratory 7- Guidance; Room MS 224 Bobbey McCarthy	In CTE Exploratory 7- Guidance, students will explore tools that can assist them in finding success during 7th grade and onward. Areas of discussion will include academic strategies, relationship building, digital citizenship, and future planning.
Exploratory 7 - Library Deb McHugh	In Exploratory 7 - “Genius Hour”, students will explore ideas/topics of interest to them while building research and media literacy skills.
