CHS Students Selected to Perform in New York Conference All-State Music Ensemble

The Cazenovia High School Music Department is pleased to announce that CCSD students Ethan Coburn and Elijah Gebers have been selected to participate in the New York Conference All-State Music Ensemble.
The students rehearsed with esteemed conductors and other top student musicians from throughout New York State during the annual Winter Conference of the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) held December 1-4 in Rochester, NY.
Senior vocalists Ethan Coburn and Elijah Gebers were both selected, out of thousands of students that auditioned, to perform in the Mixed Choir.

Ethan is a member of Cazenovia’s High School Orchestra, String Ensemble, Concert Choir & Chamber Choir. Elijah is a member of the Orchestra, String Ensemble, Concert Choir, Chamber Choir & Jazz Ensemble.

The All-State experience begins with a music teacher, his or her student and an accompanist
spending countless hours preparing a NYSSMA Level VI solo, which must be selected from
repertoire lists in the current NYS manual. Last spring, over 6,500 sophomores and juniors from across the state of New York prepared for All-State evaluations in the hope of being selected.

The NYSSMA concerts were held during the conference in the magnificent Eastman Theatre (at the University of Rochester), which has been Rochester’s preeminent performance space since its opening in 1922. This historic space has hosted the world’s greatest musicians and conductors and we are proud that our fellow Lakers are now part of this theatre’s rich history.
