CHS Students Receive NYSSMA Recognition

The Cazenovia High School Music Department is pleased to announce that three students were recognized in the State Conference All-State Music Ensembles selection process. The student will rehearse with esteemed conductors and other top student musicians from throughout New York State during the annual Winter Conference of the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA), held from December first and second in Rochester, NY. Olivia Wong, a junior violinist, was selected as an alternate for the Orchestra.  Senior Elijah Gebers was selected for the Mixed Choir. And senior Ethan Coburn was selected as both an alternate for the Orchestra and a member of the Mixed Choir.

Olivia is a member of Cazenovia’s High School Orchestra, Concert Choir, Chamber Choir and String Ensemble. Elijah is a member of the Concert Choir, Chamber Choir, Orchestra, String Ensemble and Jazz Band. Ethan participates in Concert Choir, Chamber Choir, Concert Orchestra and String Ensemble.

The All-State experience begins with a music teacher, his or her student and an accompanist spending countless hours preparing a NYSSMA Level VI solo which must be selected from repertoire lists in the current NYS manual.

Last spring, over 6,500 sophomores and juniors from across the state of New York prepared for All-State evaluations in the hope of being selected. The concerts will be held in the magnificent “Eastman Theatre” (University of Rochester) which has been Rochester’s preeminent performance space since its opening in 1922. This historic space has hosted the world’s greatest musicians and conductors.

Congratulations to Olivia, Elijah & Ethan!!
